Well, no, it didn’t. But I’m trying to spin it that way.
You see, a friend of mine had to go on a business trip to Hershey, Pennsylvania a few weekends ago. On a whim she called me and another friend and invited us to go along…the company paid for her hotel room plus a rental car and gas; there were two double beds in the hotel room. All we had to buy were our meals. Cheap trip, right? Thing is, she calls at 9:30 A.M. on a Friday, and she’s leaving that day at 3:30 P.M. So, after some frantic scrambling to get packed and a super-sweet call to ask my husband if he minded if I disappeared for the entire weekend, three women were sprung from our daily grind and on a road trip!
Hey, when you are a Mom, Hershey PA may as well be heaven. Anything that gets you out of the house is perfect.)
We arrive late Friday night. We show our age by going straight to bed. The next day, while our friend worked at a convention, two of us perused the outlet shops. I didn’t buy anything but a Starbuck’s Java Chip Frappachino. That night we eat at the hotel and…go to bed. Wow, what an adventure!
Actually, it was… while at the outlet shops, my friend pointed to a hill and said, “Do you think that’s the Hotel Hershey?” “Yeah,” I said. “You know they have a spa there?” returned my friend. “Don’t you think we should go check it out?” I said, trying to sound casual. We were up at the hotel in less than five minutes. Five minutes later we were booked for a treatment apiece.
The next morning I’m at the Hotel Hershey getting a Peppermint Salt Scrub. For $65 and thirty minutes, my body was scrubbed with the most refreshing body scrub ever. Worth every penny! My body was so incredibly soft and I felt like a million bucks. I knew I had to see if the scrub was sold in the spa shop. It was…for $29 for an eight-ounce jar. For salt? I don’t think so.
So where does the savings come in? Well, I figured the scrub couldn’t have much more than salt and peppermint in it, so once I was back home I did an internet search for peppermint salt scrub recipes. I found one at Care2 , and the results are fantastic! Not only does this have to be so close to the scrub used at Hershey Spa, but this recipe makes sixteen ounces for about $3.
My argument is I saved at least $26 by not buying the scrub at Hershey Spa, and $69 for every time I think about going to Hershey Spa and don’t. (I’ll probably go to Mirbeau instead.)
