What would happen if, today, you dressed as if you were the exact weight you wanted to be?
What would your husband do if you woke up this morning and threw your arms around your him and told him how much you love him as if today was your wedding day?
How would your friend that you love but don’t talk to as often as you like feel if you called her as if no time had passed at all?
What would happen if you ordered that warm white chocolate mocha on a cold day as if the calories didn’t count?
What would happen if you played games with your children as if you didn’t have a house to clean or errands to run?
How would your child feel if you gave him a hug and kiss when he spilled milk for the second time today as if the spill didn’t bother you at all?
What would happen if you set the table for dinner with matching plates, napkins, and a tablecloth as if the rest of the house looked picture-perfect?
What would happen if you sang in the shower as if you had the voice of Kelly Clarkson?
How would you feel if you smiled and laughed thoughout the day as if everything was going your way?
My life isn’t perfect. I’m no Pollyanna. But when I behave as if, life has a funny way of becoming how I act. When I behave as if my husband can’t bug me, he is happy and eager to be nice back. When I’m happy with my children even when I feel like I can’t take one more temper tantrum or mess or rolling eyes, they are first surprised and then happy, too. When you act as if the bank teller isn’t incompetent and rude, it’s the best revenge against the rudeness. What’s strange is that it really works…and, trust me, I am the most skeptical person you could ever meet.
What would happen if, just for one day, you acted as if?
